Day-9 May-13 Sunday 1:00 p.m.
100 miles today
We just arrived in Cape Girardeau, MO. Called Brandon from King Marine LLC and he is on the way to pick us up. The boat will be put on a trailer so we can gas up, spend the night at a hotel and try to take off at first light in the morning.
I did not have a signal to blog last night. This is a picture of Hoppie's Marine Service in Kimmswick, MO. The little boat on the end is ours. Hoppie's dock is a series of old barges that are tied together, they have been there 80 years. At first it was a sight but after a while it was our home.Fern is the owner of hoppies, They fueled our boat, we grabbed some ice and relaxed for the evening. I spent a couple hours talking to Fern and she shared many river stories.
Doug turned 63 yesterday at hoppies. At breakfast at Grofton, Doug was impressed with the homemade Strawberry rhubarb pie, so we bought a few pieces instead of a birthday cake. I bought some candles and we sang him a happy birthday.
Our start of the morning. A coffee break on the floating barge dock.
Up bright and early
Some of the dock ornaments by the gas pump.
No power at the boat, so I wandered up the barge for power, A chair and an old battery box and we have coffee.
David,, did you purposely turn the numbers around in Doug's age of "36" or didn't Willis proof read your blog?
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday Doug! (great photos and info, Dave - Capt. W. we're enjoying your voyage via the blog!)
